Manchester
Fire Department employs Auxiliary Firefighters to compliment our full time staff during incidents involving structural fire
control. Auxiliary Firefighters can and do perform every function associated
with fighting a fire, only those with considerable training and experience are positioned to attack a fire. Dependent on your interest and available time, you may be eligible to participate in our Auxiliary program. For more information on how to become an Auxiliary Firefighter, come by the fire station
on Perry Street.

Fire Prevention Program
This program is aimed at reducing the incidences
of fire within the jurisdiction of the Manchester Fire Department. Commercial buildings are routinely pre-fire plan
inspected once each year. Homeowners can request a fire safety inspection of their home at any time. Please call

Smoke Detector Program
"Project Sleep Safe" is run strictly on the donations
from the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation and local business owners. So far, over 40 smoke detectors have been
issued to the citizens of Manchester. The Department will issue smoke detectors
and provide a short fire safety talk. This program is designed for low income and elderly citizens residing in the city
of Manchester.

Safety Talks
These informational talks are presented to various groups in the community. Topics have included
the proper use of fire extinguishers, evacuation techniques, fire safety for the elderly, and the capabilities of the
Manchester Fire Department.
Alternative Teaching for Elementary Students:
CLOWNS
SPREADING THE WORD...
Manchester Fire Department is starting up a new fire prevention program using clowns to
spread the word on fire & life safety. This Prevention and Life Safety team, otherwise known as PALS will bring
skits into the elementary schools to make learning both fun and silly. The kids will love it! This program is
designed for Pre-K - 3rd Grade.
PALS hopes to expand this program into festivals and other special events. If

Essay and Poster Contest:
Manchester Fire Department is beginning a fire prevention program targeting 4th
grade - 8th grade students. After attending a fire safety assembly,
4th & 5th graders attending school within our service area are asked to submit poster drawings centered around the theme
for National Fire Prevention Week. 6th - 8th graders are
asked to submit an essay. Submissions
are required to be turned in no later than November 1st. Certificates and ribbons will be awarded to the winners at our annual
firefighter’s banquet. Teachers can inquire how to enter their students
by calling the Manchester Fire Department at (706) 846-2134.

You may visit
the fire station. Times may be limited upon scheduled fire station activities for the day. Please call to schedule a program.
