Here we answer common questions you may have.

 
nQ.  What are the office hours for the fire department?
nA.  Our office hours are from 8 am – 4 pm.
 
nQ.  My insurance wants to know the City’s ISO rating for my home owners insurance, what do I tell them?
nA.  The Manchester Fire Department is rated a ISO Class 4 effective 1 July 2007.
 
nQ.  What is the ISO rating?
nA. ISO serves the insurance marketplace with statistical, actuarial, underwriting, and claims data to rate fire protection risk in a community.  The lower the rating the lower your premium.

Q.  How many smoke detectors should I have in my home?
nA.  You need one near the bedrooms and at least one on every floor of your home.

Q.  Do I need a fire extinguisher in my home?
nA.  Yes, preferably in the kitchen.

Q.  How do I get a Burn Permit or Fire Report?
nA.  Come to the Fire Department between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.  Burn Permits are only issued between the months of October 1st and April 30th.   May 1st – September 30th, Meriwether County is under a burn ban.  Fire Reports cost $5.00 payable at City Hall.  Bring the receipt to the Fire Department
 
Q: Does the Department fill swimming pools for people?
A:  No.  Individuals can fill their pools with hydrant water by calling the City Public Works (Payment is assessed for using the water on your bill)  You can rent a hose from a retail rental store.
 
Q:  Can the public schedule a birthday party at the station?
A:  No.  We discourage the public from having parties at the fire station for safety and security reasons. However we encourage them to incorporate a tour of the station with their private party at home.
 
Q: "Why does the fire engine go out on medical calls?"
A: To ensure quick response and adequate assistance on all emergency scenes.  Our career staff are Medical 1st Responders or EMT's.  Our auxiliary staff are trained in CPR and Basic 1st Aid.
